Why do we celebrate Memorial Day?
Memorial Day is considered a federal holiday in the United States in which we honor and mourn members of the military who have passed while serving in the United States Armed Forces. This is not to be confused with Veterans Day.
Please let us remember this... While enjoying the First Weekend of Summer...

I always associate passing of family too.
Have a wonderful holiday weekend...be safe.
Our son is a veteran and he is always reminding us that this day is not for veterans, but for those that gave all!
YES, it goes much deeper than cookouts and travel!
A lot of people confuse these two days.
Thankful for those who were willing to serve and gave their lives for our country.
betty
I love that quote!
I have trouble using the word "Celebrate" and "Happy " with this day.
Yes it is so important not to forget the meaning of today. It is not 'the kick off to summer" but a day to remember and be thankful for those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
Tessa!! You blessed woman! I didn't know you were blogging again! Glad to have you back on my blog list! I just saw you in another blog's comment box and am glad to have found your feisty self again!
Yes, remembrance and thankfulness for those who gave their lives for ours to remain free.
Thank you for mentioning this. So many confuse the two and it can be discouraging because those who lost their lives defending our freedoms must always be honored with a special day of remembrance. It's a big thing. xoxo
