⛄ An old fashioned snow storm... ⛄

We are having an old fashioned snow storm.   This little old 'mousey' lady above, is doing what to do, during it.   If you are an old 'mousey' lady, or an old retired lady, like me.  :-)

Granted, people in the ice storm part of this, are not having an old fashioned snow storm.   I am very sorry for them.   ❄ ❄ ❄ ❄    But I was thinking.....    People in the North East have been living through snow storms forever.   We didn't used to get that upset over them, years ago.  Why do we panic now?
Maybe because of all the Weather News available now?  All the "something terrible this way comes,"  from all the weather forecasters?  A couple of hundred years ago, the only weather forecasters were the old people, and their old bones, which ached when the weather was going to turn 'bad'.    And farmers, who could 'read the sky' and etc.

And back then, they didn't have to rush to the store for needed food.     They always kept a 'deep pantry,' as a way of life.   And they had enough fire wood on hand.    It was just a matter of riding out the storm, no matter what it turned out to be.

Yes?

No?

Maybe?

OR....

Am I just being a Grumpy Old Lady, today...???????????????

Wednesday we had half a day or more of sleet. Thursday morning it turned to snow and it didn't stop until this morning. We have about 10 inches of snow and it is beautiful. It's a sunny day and everything is so bright. Your not being grouchy, it's a fact. Things are just blown out of proportion now. Everything is so dire. It's frustrating at times.

I definitely think it's the fear mongering by the weather people. More eyes on them that way. More money in their coffers. Annoys the hooey out of me, so I guess I'm a grumpy old lady, too! 🤣 Bomb cyclones, snow tornados. They love anything that scares us.

I think people who live in northern climes normally handle this weather with a different attitude. Our relatives in North Dakota and all the upper states included. My sister used to live in Norway many years ago, and in the winter her neighbors who became good friends, introduced her to cross-country skiing. They all had small cabins up in the mountains anywhere from a weekend to a month, and they had fun. I laughed when I saw that last photo. And the others you share are delightful!

I also think that way back then, we were all a bit used to "roughing it". And were not quite as spoiled with all the modern helpers we have now. And it is true that the news will scare the dickens out of you. I love how the little mouse in your first picture has her shoes off, is appearing to wiggle her toes, and seems perfectly content with whatever the weather outside is doing.

Oooh - I love that barn pic!
I agree - the news picks up on any storm and blows it way out of proportion. I hear a lot of people around here say - "This is Michigan, We have snow in the winter, so carry on!"

Thirty-six hours of heavy snow here. Ugh!

You are so correct about having weather forecasts day in and day out - night in and night out - AND in the 'good ole days' people just took it in their stride no matter what came their way. They took care of whatever came their way and didn't fuss so. Not today. They go buy new shovels every year? Yes they do! OK I'll shut up now.

It's called winter! But that doesn't fit the lefty narrative, so ... the sky is FALLING!!!!!! Take cover! Nope ... just snuggle up, buttercup! xoxo

"...used to live in Norway many years ago, and in the winter..."

I read a Swedish blog, and that is what they do!

In summer, they fully enjoy summer. And in winter, they fully enjoy winter. A lovely attitude.

Gentle hugs...

Hi Friend,
Oh, you are not grumpy at all.. I guess if you are, I am too. Because I think it is all NUTS. Naming these storms is silly too. Good Grief!!

Hang in there.. I am still in hope that Common Sense will come back to this country.

You are not alone in being a Grumpy Old Woman! Here, we often have heavy rain storms with gale force winds and flooding at any time of the year. It has been that way as long as I can remember. Now, each storm is warned about like it is going to have dire consequences never before seen, and often people are forced to evacuate when they know their local region and know that they will be okay. Anyone would think weather should be daily sunshine with a little bit of night moisture/rain (to stop droughts) and that we should never have a storm. What planet do these people live on?

I don't think you're being grumpy at all...what you said is definitely true. Of course, I don't know much about snow because I live in the deep south and we get a "tad" of snow every ten blue moons!!! A few years ago it snowed enough to cover the ground for a little while and we all went crazy!!! It was beautiiful. I love all your illustrations:)
