The art of Nikolai Astrup...
The art of Nikolai Astrup is new to me! And I love it!!!
I put this painting, on top of this post, because New Blogger makes all my Header pictures.... Not Clear... 😔😕😖 And it is so pretty, I wanted Dear Readers to be able to see it, clearly.
Another delightful one...
When we think of Norway, we think of ice and snow and cold mountains and fiords. And he did paint some such...
But he seemed to like to concentrate on warmer months, and the everyday happenings, in them.
"By The Open Door"... Which seems wistful to me. As if the girl who is sitting, wishes to go out the door, and down the path. Is the woman on the left, who is watching her, somehow preventing the one on the right, from following her wishes??????
I love these Mid Summer's Eve ones! Showing the bonfires set, in each village, along the mountains and fiords...! Celebrating Mid Summer's Eve! The dancing and joyful celebration! The use of bright colors!
But this version of Mid Summer's Eve celebrations, though Joyful, shows a girl, sitting off to the right side.... Away from the joy... Watching from the sidelines... Which invokes sadness, that she can't join in.
It is thought, that she might have represented the artist. Who as a youngster, was not allowed to join in such Joyful Celebrations. Because of their Pagan roots.
He certainly was impressed by them, the way he joyfully painted them, as an adult.

I like " By The Open Door"..His paintings are very colorful..intricate...Thanks for sharing.
Oh my! Love his work! The use of color and movement is wonderful!
I love this artist, he is new to me. Especially the second one. Yes, the woman standing at that door has her hand on her hip, so I wonder if she is maybe bossing the other girl. His painting style reminds me of Van Gogh.
I too like his work!! My favorite is the second one!
I've not heard of him either, but I like his style! I also really like the one of the girl in the doorway. It does look like she would like to be out there!
Thank you for introducing me to this artist. Beautiful work!
I really like his style of painting and the way he manages to convey a message in them (even if we don't always understand it).
Hadn't heard of him either but I do enjoy his work! Thanks for sharing him with us!
betty
What an unusual talent this artist had! So much emotion in those canvases. I love By the Open Door. Truly wonderful. So much can be read into the posture and attitude of the women. xoxo
I did enjoy it...enjoyed it all. I like the one by the doorway & icy scene best.
(I've been working two days on those "stupid" headers for my blog. What a pain.
So beautiful. I love it. Have a wonderful and safe weekend.
Simply beautiful!
